Introducing IPTC Sport Schema 1.0: A New Standard for Sports Data

Behold the wonder of the IPTC Sport Schema 1.0!

The first new IPTC standard to be released in more than 10 years, IPTC Sport Schema is a comprehensive model for the storage, transmission and querying of sports data. It has been tested on real-world use cases that are common in any newsroom or sports organisation. Being RDF-based, IPTC Sport Schema can be rendered in XML, JSON and the simple Turtle format, and can be converted easily between all three formats using free tools such as Apache Jena. “Those familiar with SportsML or SportsJS should recognise the basic components of Sport Schema,” says [Paul] Kelly, “both in the ontology and in the sports vocabularies introduced with SportsML 3.0, which were designed specifically with semantic technologies in mind.”

The Organization ontology may come in handy re non-profits, and FIBO even has a nod to non-profits.

Knowledge Graphs in Agri-Food: Join the Webinar on June 2nd

Tune in Thursday, 2 June @ 11:00 AM EDT for a talk I'll be giving on knowledge graphs in the agri-food domain, followed by a panel discussion on "convergence science and innovation" in this and related areas. While I'll be highlighting some linked data work in the agri-food realm, my talk is also meant to serve as something of a general introduction to knowledge graph technologies (with food and agricultural as a conceptual frame), so (I hope) should be suitable for diverse audiences. Distinguished participants and panelists include:

  • Chair Professor Laurette Dubé (Scientific Director of the McGill Centre for the Convergence of Health and Economics)

  • Co-Chair & Moderator John G. Keogh (Professor of Practice, McGill Centre for the Convergence of Health and Economics)

  • Guest Co-Chair Dr. Anna Fensel (Associate Professor at Wageningen University & Research and at STI Innsbruck)

  • Dr. Fadel Ndiame (Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa)

  • Damion Dooley (Ontology Development Lead at the Centre for Infectious Disease and One Health)

  • Dr. Ashleigh F. (the Director of Platform Knowledge Graph, Semantic Search, and MLAI, EBSCO - though I'm sure she needs little introduction on the KGC Slack)

  • Carlos Quiros (Digital Developer at Bioversity International)

  • Marie-Angélique Laporte (Associate Scientist at the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT)
